DataBase - Run GP 10.0 and GP 9.0 on Workstations?

Asked By G

We're investigating our options for upgrading to Dynamics GP 10.0 from 9.0.
Is it possible to install GP 10.0 on all the workstations that are running GP
9.0 without uninstalling GP 9.0?

Basically, we would like the option of running both client versions
(pointing to different servers/DSNs).

Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated.

There should be no problem installing GP 9.0 and 10.0 on the same computer.
We do this all the time.

Just curious, why not upgrade to GP 2010 at this point? it is been out since
May and seems pretty stable by all accounts.

Worth to mention that if you have accidently opened GP 10.0 on the GP 9.0
ODBC, GP 9.0 will no longer been able to login anymore, unless fixing

Good question, Victoria. I was under the impression that 2010 was coming
out in July, but if it seems stable, we will certainly look into it. A few
questions:

1) Will Integration Manager work with 2010 (we are using an Access 2002
database for our sales quoting/pushing orders.

2) Is there a cost to go from 9.0 to 2010?

3) What are the minimum requirements for the desktop (currently running
Windows XP)

4) Does the client run on Dexterity (not real pleased with this) and/or
does the client run via a browser (curious)?

Thanks for your quick response.

Disregard my questions about 2010, we will not be upgrading (do not want to deal
with Windows 7 upgrades on all the clients).

Another question ... I installed the client for 10 on my workstation
(another instance) and the installation completed without problem (restarted
after installation).

However, when I try to run the new instance (10.0), I get the following
error: "Dynamics.exe - Unable to Locate Component - This application has
failed to start because DLBKGF.DLL was not found."

Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can still use GP2010 with Windows XP machines as long as you have
SP3 applied.
Review the system requirements: http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/en/us/usi=
ng/gp-system-requirements.aspx

As far as your error message goes, were you able to successfully
install GP10. Have you run the utilities against the server to upgrade
the databases? Have you synchronized the account framework. There is a
100+ page guide to walk you thru the upgrade process that Microsoft
has published. You probably want to review it and make sure that you
are not doing anything that is not supported.

As far as 2010 goes, integration manager is supported, there is no
software cost to go from 9.0 to 2010 if you are current on your
enhancement, and it does work on Windows XP. There is a business
portal which is web based tool for GP, but you will be able to
accomplish only few things out of portal, for everything you will
still need GP dexterity client.

Hope this helps.

DataBase Hello, I am confused as to how ODBC should be setup when connecting to GP. Should you use a login and password in the ODBC connection or use Windows Authentication? And if you need to use a user / login should that be set to who uses that machine? What I am confused about is there are 2 connections to GP. The ODBC connection and when the user launches GP, they are presented with a login screen in GP. So how does the 2 logins relate to one another? Thanks.
